Conservation Awareness Program

School Nature Clubs

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife Department has organized more than 200 School Nature Clubs throughout the province to educate young generation through informal means of education with an objective to enlist support of teachers and students at the grass root level. Various activities are conducted with students and teachers pertaining to important themes and concepts for their comprehension and interest . These School Nature Clubs have been established in both the government and private schools. under this program, students of class 9th are enrolled as members of school nature clubs for a period of one year. The following table shows a summary of these nature clubs in each wildlife division;

Awareness Material

To conservation education and awareness among general public and students, Wildlife Extension Division has prepared various awareness materials symbolizing conservation of wildlife and biodiversity in the province. These awareness materials have been distributed among wildlife lovers, students, teachers, local communities, environmentalists, and conservationists. Some of the awareness materials are listed below:

AWildlife Auditorium

The Wildlife Department has established a wildlife museum in the wildlife head office at Shami Road in Peshawar. The museum is stuffed with different specimens of birds and animals in the province which are displayed in their associated prototype habitats. Birds and animals calls are run in background sound to present a real like situation. A touch screen has been displayed carrying respective details about each specimen.

AWildlife Museum

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife Department has established a Wildlife museum at Head Office Peshawar to promote research, conservation education and awareness among students, conservationists and general public. The museum is housed with 100 specimens representing a cross section of wildlife of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The specimens has been placed according their pro of natural habitat. A pictorial identification book to the specimens of museum has been prepared which provides information to visitors about habitat, biology description and distribution in the province. All the specimens are labeled with scientific and common names. Besides, awareness materials i.e posters pamphlets, brochures, stickers etc about different wildlife species are also placed in the museum for visitors. A electronic visual display facility has also been provided in the museum for visitors in obtaining details information.

AWildlife Library

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife Department has established Wildlife Library at the Head Office at Peshawar under Wildlife Extension Program in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to promote conservation education and awareness. The library currently has 1000 books covering different disciplines such as environment, wildlife, biodiversity, agriculture, protected areas, fisheries, environmental sciences, international treaties etc. moreover, different popular generals/ magazines of national and international report about wildlife conservation are also available in the library. Seating facilities for readers has been provided in the library. There are also different awareness materials prepared by different organizations, projects and wildlife divisions in the province. Newspapers on daily basis have been ensured to provide current updates on environmental approaches to the visitors.

AWildlife Information Centers

To promote conservation education and awareness among general public and visitors, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife Department has established Wildlife Information Centers in various protected areas such as wildlife parks, national parks and pheasantries of the province. These information centers play an important role in disseminating information regarding conservation of wildlife resources to a wide array of public. These information centers houses stuff of different wildlife species. They also have the facility of lectures/presentations, awareness materials such as posters, brochures, stickers, charts, etc. Different sessions of trainings are also organized in these training halls.

AWildlife Emviromental Day

The Department regularly celebrate important international days related to environment. Students and people from different walks of life are invited and presentations on importance of environment with particular emphasis on wildlife are given. Some of the important environmental days are as follows;-

AWildlife Club Forum

The Wildlife Department protects, preserves, conserves, and manages the Wildlife in the Province through a number of proactive measures. Community participation program which is one of the conservation tools has been effective in conserving Wildlife in different geographical areas of the Province. To provide a platform for effective management of the Wildlife stock the Wildlife Department has planned to form a Wildlife Club in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa comprising of individuals and Organizations having birds and wild animals in possession. This will help in developing a database of Wildlife Club members by enabling them to share and provide technical assistance to each other and maintaining their facilities effectively.

  1. Knowledge sharing.
  2. Exchange various types of birds and animals as provided under the law.
  3. Maintain proper record of birds and animals.
  4. Coordinate with Wildlife Department to ensure conservation of Wildlife resources.
  5. Register their birds and animals with Wildlife Department.
  6. Submit comprehensive report on annual basis including mortality, sale, chicks and eggs production and record of parent stock.
  7. Provide photo album.
  8. Deposit a membership fee of Rs.1000/- annually.
  9. Provide personal profile along with CNIC and other testimonials for database and record.

Wildlife General

  1. No TA/DA will be provided to member for attending meeting/function.
  2. Membership fee will be used for membership card, education material, literature, refreshment and certificates.
  3. Membership will be renewed in January each year and fresh members may be enrolled any time.
